Elisava Research project ‘En mitjons a la Plaça’ gives voice to the neighbours of Sant Boi

Date:

Plaça de la Generalitat, in Sant Boi de Llobregat, has had a particular Christmas decoration for a few days now: a series of socks turned into lanterns hang from the trees of this square. In addition, all of them are accompanied by a handwritten note with the Christmas wishes of a thousand children in the neighbourhood.

All of it is part of the project "En Mitjons a la Plaça", a proposal of ephemeral architecture that aims to facilitate the co-creative participation of neighbours and children of the neighbourhood of Marianao in this town.

This is an initiative of Elisava Research co-funded by La Caixa Foundation and the City Council of Sant Boi de Llobregat, and integrated into the research project "Civic Placemaking: Disseny, Espai Públic i Cohesió Social". The Mayor of Sant Boi, Lluïsa Moret; the first deputy mayor, José Ángel Carcelén; the alderman of Culture, José Manuel González; and the alderman of Participation and Marianao, Dani Martínez, among other political representatives, inaugurated the installation this past Saturday with great public success.

The project has been directed by Roger Paez, architect and co-director of ELISAVA Master in Ephemeral Architecture and Temporary Spaces (MEATS). The involved research team has had Manuela Valtchanova, Rodrigo Aguirre and Toni Montes, also co-director of the MEATS, and the students of this program have collaborated in the assembly of the installation.
